Fairly Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-10-22
Fairly ("we", "us") is a Shopify app that helps merchants sell and manage product subscriptions. This policy explains what data Fairly processes, why, and how it's handled, for both the merchants who install Fairly and their customers who subscribe through it.
Information we collect
When a merchant installs Fairly, we access and store, via the Shopify Admin API:
- The merchant's shop domain and store settings needed to operate the app.
- Subscription contract data: status, billing schedule, pricing, and the products on each contract.
- For each subscribing customer: their Shopify customer ID, email address, and (if collected by the merchant's theme) phone number — used only to identify their subscription and send them the notifications described below.
- Billing attempt history (success/failure of each charge) needed to run retries and dunning.
- Cancellation reasons a customer selects when ending a subscription.
- If a merchant uses the migration tool, the CSV file they upload (containing subscriber data from their previous subscription platform) is processed to create matching subscriptions in Fairly, then retained only as an audit record of what was imported.
How we use this information
- To create, display, and manage subscription contracts on the merchant's behalf.
- To send subscribers lifecycle emails (and, on plans with SMS enabled, text messages) about their subscription: welcome, upcoming order reminders, and payment-failure alerts.
- To calculate the merchant's own analytics (active subscribers, revenue, churn, cancellation reasons) — these are aggregate figures shown only to the merchant, not shared onward.
- To enforce the subscriber limits of the merchant's chosen Fairly plan.
Third parties
Fairly shares data with the following third parties, only as needed to provide the service:
- Shopify — the platform Fairly is built on; all subscription and billing data lives primarily in Shopify's own systems.
- Email delivery provider — to send the transactional emails listed above.
- Twilio — only for merchants who enable SMS notifications, to deliver those text messages.
We do not sell customer or merchant data, and we do not use it for advertising.
Data retention
We retain subscription, billing, and notification records for as long as the merchant has Fairly installed, so the app continues to function correctly. If a merchant uninstalls Fairly, we delete their shop's data in line with Shopify's mandatory compliance webhooks (customer data request, customer redact, and shop redact).
Your rights
If you're a customer of a store using Fairly and want to access, correct, or delete your data, please contact that store directly — they control your subscription. If you're a merchant with questions about your own account's data, contact us using the details below.
Contact
Questions about this policy or how Fairly handles data can be sent to the support contact listed on Fairly's Shopify App Store listing.
